Thank you for visiting the brand new Megan Jerome website, beautifully designed by flanny.net digital constructions. I'm thrilled to welcome you! Please take a look around and enjoy this lovely place.
I'm Megan. I write songs and sing and play piano. My music is called "avant-folk" and "boho-jazz" (Peter Hum, Fateema Sayani, The Ottawa Citizen). I'm excited and thankful to be writing music and performing on my own and with my friends, in galleries, at festivals, house concerts...
The summer's been exciting so far - I've recorded (on accordion!) with avant-rock band Parade; played fantastic gigs with Sault Ste Marie's Frank Deresti, at Loplops and at Rotaryfest's Second Stage; and during the Ottawa International Jazz Festival I rehearsed for a week with some of Canada's finest musicians: Roddy Elias, John Geggie, Jean Martin, Chris Bartos and Petr Cancura. Together we formed the Ottawa Composers Collective and performed to a full house in the Improv Inivitational Series. Thanks to all these great musicians, to all of you who attended, and thanks to the festivals!
I'm now looking forward to a few weeks of summer fun, writing, and working on two exciting fall projects: a mini Northern Ontario tour, and...a live recording and broadcast of one of our future concerts on CBC's Canada Live!! You can be sure I'll let you know all the details as we iron them out!
Art Cubed was a hit this year! Thanks to all who attended and performed in this exciting and contemporary dance, music and art performance series. Please stay tuned for Art Cubed 2009.
I have two recordings to date, both with the Megan Jerome Trio. These recordings, This Uneven Pace and Unlonely, have received regular airplay on CBC radio stations across the country. Bill Stunt placed Unlonely in his Top 5 Ontario discs for 2004. Both discs have been on Top 10 Jazz Charts (CHLY, CFUV and CILU)...Thanks for playing us, and thanks for listening! I'm currently working on a third recording.
Megan Jerome and The Megan Jerome Trio gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance of the The City of Ottawa, The Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts and FACTOR.
