Following family singsongs and classical piano lessons Megan pursued mining engineering at Queen's University and earned a degree in jazz piano at Carleton University. Drawing on contemporary artsong, jazz and folk music, Megan creates uniquely quirky, modern and beguiling homemade songs. Megan's artful compositions feature open-hearted and occasionally saucy, vocals; energetic, syncopated rhythm; beautiful sounds; contemporary contrapuntal lines and a minimalist piano style. Megan's music is at once "avant-folk" and "boho-jazz" (Peter Hum, Fateema Sayani, The Ottawa Citizen). Her two recordings, Unlonely and This Uneven Pace, have topped charts on community and CBC radio stations nationwide. In performance, Megan Jerome is simply enchanting.
Megan performs her songs solo, in duo and with the Megan Jerome Trio, with acclaimed musicians Petr Cancura (saxophone, mandolin, voice) and Mike Essoudry (drums, percussion, voice). Megan is working on her third recording of new songs.
“Intimate, quirky and fearlessly beautiful”
